This project reimagines Moore Park, a 74 ha urban park located just 3km from Sydney’s Central Business District. Historically, the park formed a crucial part of Sydney’s freshwater swampland and ecological corridor, supporting hydrological flow and wildlife movement across the urban landscape. As one of the city’s largest green spaces, it serves more than 60,000 residents living within a 2km radius. Today, approximately 80 percent of the park is occupied by a privatized golf course, limiting broader public access. This shift disrupted hydrological flows, fragmented habitat, and limited public access in one of Sydney’s most densely populated urban districts. In 2023, the NSW government proposed a plan to return 20 ha of the golf course land to open public green spaces. The design proposes a rewilding strategy that restores ecological function while maintaining golf activity. By reshaping landforms and integrating native planting, wetlands, and public trails, the project reconnects fragmented habitats, improves soil condition, and creates a shared sanctuary where people and nature can thrive together in one of Sydney’s most densely populated districts.
