“Church of the Mountain” is rooted in the Western Hills of Fujian Province, China, employing "light" as a spiritual medium to create a localized space of faith that coexists with the mountain. The design transforms natural light into a growing network—guiding sunlight like a flowing stream through cracks, skylights, and textured stone walls, suffusing the organic volumes constructed from concrete and local stone, making the architecture a natural extension of the mountain. Light further acts as an orchestrator of ritual: the spatial sequence from darkness to clarity echoes the poetic imagery of the mountain. Precisely projected sunlight and shadow, framed by the concrete structure, become symbols blending religious sanctity with Eastern philosophy. Ultimately, light weaves a dialogue among humans, faith, and nature. Through a quiet play of shadow and illumination, the church emerges as an earthly landmark reaching toward eternity. It embodies harmony between people and the natural world—bathed in sunlight and rain, its luminous white form shines like light upon the land and into the heart. Aspiring to nurture a global spiritual community and advance world peace.
