This project focuses on conserving and adaptively reusing architectural heritage around Zhongshan Road Subway Station and Qingdao's Liyuan compounds. Guided by "living" heritage conservation, it harmonizes complex relationships between Liyuan's historical value, socio-cultural considerations, contemporary needs, and multiple stakeholders' interests. By introducing time-appropriate functions into these historic structures, it sustains cultural significance while injecting enduring vitality. Respecting and preserving heritage value unites diverse interests. Based on current building conditions, the strategy of "making optimal use of each structure" and "tailoring measures per building" guides comprehensive conservation within the project scope. In response to fragmentation caused by Jiaozhou Road's construction, the design introduces contextual spatial interventions to enhance urban fabric coherence, creating an outward expression of Liyuan's intrinsic cultural atmosphere.
