Once a butcher's shop, the building was a famous meeting point for the people of the baroque town of Passau. Part of the heritage-protected ensemble, the building from 1928 is today used as a commercial and residential building. A bronze Angel stands prominently over the facade flanked with two obelisks, restored as part of the 140m2 Art-Deco Loft.
The old timber roof was replaced with cross laminated timber plates. Uncovered fair-faced masonry characterizes a long whitewashed wall as an ornament with post-industrial scars. The partition walls were replaced by wide glass doors in raw steel frames, allowing a spatial transition between hall, kitchen, living and Bedroom.
A staircase folded as one metal piece under a Skylight leads up to a restored copper roof with a garden. A large wheel of stretch metal serves as a railing and gives gravity and direction to the space. Raw metal and brushed oak are the primary materials used for kitchen shelves, counters, windowsills or former beam niches.
White brushed and oiled oak Parquet compliments the industrial black and white look with a warm look. Some old elements juxtapose the new, such as a restored timber door with Werkbund latches.
